Alice Atkins

Associate National Director of Asian American Ministries

Alice was born in the Philippines to Chinese missionaries from Hong Kong. When she was 8 years old, her family moved to the U.S. so that her father could pursue further theological education at Dallas Theological Seminary. 

After 10 years in Texas, she moved to Philadelphia to attend the University of Pennsylvania. At Penn, she pursued a degree in business from the Wharton school where she concentrated in management and marketing. She also became active in InterVarsity Christian Fellowship (www.intervarsity.org) serving as a small group bible study leader and executive team member. 

Upon graduation, Alice went to work as a benefits analyst with Hewitt Associates in New Jersey. A year later she married J.D. Atkins, a fellow small group leader and executive team member from Penn Intervarsity.  

In 2001, JD and Alice moved back to Philadelphia to attend seminary. Alice received a master’s degree in Biblical Counseling from Westminster Theological Seminary. During that time, JD and Alice also staffed the Intervarsity chapter at U.Penn for 5 years. From 2006 to 2009, the Atkins family lived in Chicago and Alice led InterVarsity ministries at both Harper College and the University of Chicago. From 2009 to 2014, Alice served as the Area Director in Southeast Wisconsin supervising 3 schools and 6 staff 

Currently, the family lives in Europe where J.D., her husband is a New Testament professor. Alice works with InterVarsity as the National Associate Director of Asian American Ministries. 

Her passions include leadership development and cross-cultural ministry. Her responsibilities currently include coaching and mentoring Asian American staff, directing and consulting strategic regional partnerships, directing the 2019 Asian American staff conference, speaking at the 2019 InterVarsity Leadership Insititute (IVLI), and advocacing for southeast Asian staff and launching Southeast Asian student ministry.
